Well, it so happens that Abdul Rahman was willing to die for the glory of Christ. So Hugh Hewitt and the street-protesting American Christians must have been in error, believing as they did that the worst thing that can happen to a person is to be executed by their government for speaking the truth. Is it too strong to say that there is no spiritual kinship between these idiots and the martyrs in the Bible, much less with Jesus Christ?
Acts 21:13–Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.
The same article cites an interview with Rahman in an Italian newspaper saying that his teenage daughters were among those who turned him in to the Afghan authorities. On the other hand, the family is now apparently trying to help him avoid a death sentence by asking for him to be declared insane. This would place him in the same position as devout Christians in America who are considered insane by their unbelieving relatives.
Rahman is temporarily free while the court reviews his case. But he is already free in Christ. I cannot say the same for the half-hearted “Christians” in America who worship the false gods of politics and business. They are like Peter, who preferred the things of men over the things of God (Matthew 16:21-26).
