The Glory of the Kingdoms of the World

Hello, my name is Thomas Harrison. Mr. David Biter has asked me to write some guest posts here. I am going to begin by showing why it is important for us all to be involved in politics.

In the book of Matthew we read

Mat 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Mat 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
Mat 2:3 When Herod the king had heard [these things], he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

Here we see that Jesus was destined from the start for a career in politics. Everyone knew this, especially the experienced politician named Herod.

Mat 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
Mat 4:9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Mat 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Some people have misused this passage to suggest that Jesus did not want all the kingdoms of the world. He did, He just didn’t want to get them in this way because he didn’t want to have to share power with the devil. Later, we will see that Jesus sends out His disciples as campaign workers in order to get local politicians and power brokers to join his political party, in just the same way we do it toady. The first priority of Jesus in His ministry was to establish His new party so that the Roman Empire could be sanctified and used for God’s purposes.
